How To Use WeerdSpace

Getting started with WeerdSpace can be a lot at first. To help new and returning users get the most out of their experience, we've written this How-To, covering the essential functionality of the site.
Why WeerdSpace?
No algorithms, no collecting of your data, no intrusive behavior and absolutely no rage-baiting. Modern social media is broken. It demands too much of your time and only provides content it thinks will keep you hooked on scrolling. It's become a soul-crushing time sink that neither enriches nor educates us. Instead, it keeps us angry, divided and glued to our phones.
WeerdSpace wants to be different. It wants to be just a random place where you can be whoever or whatever you want and just hang out, casually. No invasive notifications or emails, desperate to get you back on the site. Gone are the drab greys and 'clean interfacing' that have turned the web into a milquetoast collection of soulless nothing. Things are different here because we set out to make them different. We are not beholden to shareholders or corporate interests. We are beholden only to the idea that the internet should be much less serious when it's used recreationally and probably not be a vehicle to societal destabilization.
There's a whole ass world outside. Get off your phone and live in it.
Getting Around
Once you're logged in, you'll be presented with a navigation bar at the top of the page. Each of the icons represents a different area of the site. This menu will stay with you as you navigate the site. Learn it, live it, love it.
Posting
At its core, WeerdSpace is a place for all your goofy Posts. All Posts are shown to everybody, and they come through in real time. Meaning, you will see Posts appear in your Public Feed as they come through; no need to refresh to see new content!
All posts can be commented on, and comments can be found by pressing the Chat bubble icon on the post itself. This will open the post in another window and allow for comments.
If you don't like your post, pressing the Trash Can icon will delete it.
If you enjoy someone else's post and would like to Repost it, simply hit the Repost icon and the post will be reposted. Reposts can be booped, but there is no commenting on reposts; only on the original post. If the original post is deleted, any reposts of it are also deleted.
You can also embed either YouTube videos or SoundCloud songs into your post! To do this, simply paste the URL of the song or video into the text box that appears once you press either the YouTube or SoundCloud button. Your video or song should display once pasted, allowing you to confirm it's correct without posting.
Valid URLs found in posts will automagically be linkified, meaning you can click on the URL and it will open in another window. Watch what you link though, as anything deemed inappropriate will get your post deleted or worse, your entire account.
There are currently two 'secret' combinations of words that will trigger special actions. You'll know you found the combination when, in your post, the secret words are replaced with '=^_^='.
Content deemed inappropriate will be automagically censored, ensuring a safer, saner experience. If you think your post was censored incorrectly, well, let us know! We're using Google's free API with our own custom tweaking, so, obviously, sometimes it gets it wrong!
Boops
Similar to 'Liking' something on other platforms, Boops are a way to show how you feel about a post using only color. All of the colors of the boops are combined, and that color is what is shown. So, for example, if one user boops blue and another yellow, the 2 boops combined should show green. Or something similar.
Boops come through in real time, so you might see Boop colors change while you browse!
To Boop a post, select the color that you'd like to boop using the color picker between the two 'Boop' buttons located on the bottom of the post. Keep in mind you can't boop your own posts, so the buttons are hidden automagically. Once you've selected the color, press one of the two Boop buttons to make your boop official!
Notifications
Whenever your Post gets a Boop, or a comment, or your public chat gets a comment, you'll get a Notification that will, well, notify you of it! You can press the button to be sent to whatever triggered the notification, which in turn will delete said notification.
There is currently no way to delete all of your notifications. Only by pressing the button for each notification can it be deleted. This feature should soon be added.
Settings
In your Settings, you can change a range of things about your profile. It's kind of what makes your time here so unique.
Remember, YOU MUST PRESS 'Save Changes' TO SAVE YOUR CHANGES!
- Get Photo - A random photo can be set as your post background, with your background color providing an overlay. This photo can be removed at any time and changed after an hour (to prevent photo spamming).
- Username - Your public Username.
- Bio - A short description of yourself, and maybe some self-promotion, as links will be rendered here!
- Default Boop Color - The color that is pre-selected on your Boops. It can still be changed for each post; this is just a matter of convenience
- Font - The font style that will be used for your Username and the content of your posts, as well as chat messages sent from you.
- Post Text - The color of the text on your posts.
- Post Back - The background color of your posts. If you've set a photo, this color will blend on top of it, coloring it.
- Border Size - How thick the border is for your posts.
- Border Radius - This is the curve radius for the corners of the border. The higher the number, the more intense the curve.
- Border Type - The kind of border, like solid or dotted, etc.
- Border Color - The color of the border itself.
- Chat From You Text Color - The color of the text on chat messages sent from you. This will apply to your Bio Public Chat.
- Chat From You Back Color - The background color for chat messages sent from you.
- Chat From Them Text Color - The color of the text on chat messages sent from others. This will apply to your Bio Public Chat.
- Chat From Them Back Color - The background color for chat messages sent from others.
- Bio Chat Name - The publicly displayed name of your Bio Chat Room.
- Bio Chat Description - A short description of your Bio Chat Room. Sometimes people will post their chat 'rules' here.
- Change Email Address and Password - These two areas are for exactly what they say.
- Delete Your Account - By following the prompts, you'll be able to entirely erase your presence on WeerdSpace. This CANNOT be undone, so, make sure you're sure.
Bio
Your Bio is public to anyone with an account and is essentially your own little corner of WeerdSpace. It will show your Username, Bio, Photo (if you have one), Public Chat (if you turned it on) and the last 10 Posts you've made.
We recommend you take time making it a reflection of who you are on WeerdSpace.
Public Chat
You can, if you want to, turn on a chat room that lives right on your Bio page. Think of it as a kind of town hall, where you can interact with other users and chat in real time.
Global Language Expression Experience
To break the barriers of traditional communication, the Global Language Expression Experience was created to allow people to communicate regardless of their native tongue.
To do this, the idea of traditional text was replaced with emojis. Instead of typing words that might or might not be understood by the recipient, emojis take their place.
Do you love bears? Do not type, 'I love bears', instead, type 'bear heart', and a bear emoji and a heart emoji will be displayed, clearly conveying to the audience your true intentions and feelings.
At this point, it is clear not only the genius of this creation, but also how seamlessly people from all over the world can communicate.
Want to discuss complex, geo-political hot-button issues? Simple. Just type 'heart bear,' and your message rings clear and true to all.
Logging Off
To logout, press the icon of the person walking into a door on the far right in the navigation bar. This will log you out in all of your windows.
Additionally, there is always a Login and Logout link in the footer on the page.
